Utopie
Series: Painting–Sculpture (mixed media: plaster, paper, wood, metal, acrylic, and transparent film on canvas)
Year: 2003 – ongoing
Utopie is a series of works in a singular format (30 × 40 cm) that fuse painting and sculpture to visually explore the desire for escape. Each piece presents a variation on the theme of flight toward another realm—another planet, another world—viewed through a window with a long ladder leaning against it. The perceptual ambiguity between planes and proportions disrupts spatial logic, where the small becomes large and the large becomes small, with desire acting as the dominant guide. Every work is encased in a transparent film that conforms to the raised elements, amplifying a sense of plasticity and serving as a unifying layer between painting and sculpture. Simultaneously, this protective membrane defines a boundary, creating a sort of self-contained microcosm.
